The Holzmann BSG 13E restores blunt twist drills from 3 to 13 mm in diameter so they cut like new again. Sharpening takes three steps, and the point geometry is ground automatically, so the result is the same whether it is the first drill or the hundredth.
The drill self-centres in the holder using graduated guides, and a depth stop controls how much material is removed. Grinding takes place against a diamond wheel driven by an 80 W motor at 4,200 rpm, rated for continuous duty. Both the sharpening rings and diamond wheels are quick to change when worn.
The machine sharpens the most common drill types: HSS, cobalt HSS-E, chrome-vanadium (CrV) and tool steel (WS). It runs on 230 V and weighs 2.4 kg, so it fits on the workbench and moves easily.
What sets the Holzmann BSG 13E apart?
Correct sharpening without practice. Sharpening a twist drill by hand on a bench grinder requires the point angle and clearance to match on both cutting edges — if they differ, the drill wanders or cuts an oversized hole. The BSG 13E controls angle and centring itself and the depth stop limits removal, so even someone who has never sharpened a drill gets symmetrical edges. For workshops that go through many metal drills, blunt bits can be resharpened rather than thrown away.
Applications for the drill sharpener
The sharpener is used in machine shops, sheet metal workshops, vehicle workshops and by installers who drill a lot in steel, as well as in the home workshop to keep a drill set sharp. It suits anywhere the same sizes of HSS drill are used repeatedly and soon go blunt.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Which drills cannot be sharpened in the Holzmann BSG 13E?
Drills under 3 mm or over 13 mm in diameter, and drills shorter than 60 mm. The minimum length is needed for the drill to be clamped and centred in the holder, so a drill sharpened down many times eventually becomes too short. The machine is intended for twist drills in HSS, HSS-E, CrV and tool steel — special drills with a different point form are not covered.
How is a drill sharpened in the Holzmann BSG 13E?
In three steps: the drill goes into the holder and is centred with the graduated guides, the depth stop is set so the right amount of material is removed, and the point is then ground against the diamond wheel while the machine controls the geometry. The same setting is used for both edges, giving a symmetrical point. When the diamond wheel wears out it is replaced; an extra diamond wheel is available as an option.
What separates the Holzmann BSG 13E from sharpening drills by hand on a bench grinder?
Repeatability. On a bench grinder the point angle and clearance depend on a steady hand, and uneven edges give wandering and oversized holes. The BSG 13E centres the drill, controls the geometry automatically and limits removal with a depth stop, so every drill from 3 to 13 mm comes out sharpened the same. The diamond wheel also never needs dressing like an ordinary grinding stone.
