The Cormak KDP220TOP is a 220-litre blast cabinet for removing rust, paint, mill scale and greasy deposits from metal parts. The cabinet has both a top opening and a front door: the lid lifts on telescopic gas struts, making it easy to lower heavy and bulky parts such as wheels, cylinder heads and engine blocks in from above instead of manoeuvring them through a side door.

The cabinet comes with the DC23 dust extractor, a 1,200 W unit with negative pressure above 12 kPa and a bag filter of around 16 litres that captures the dust from blasting. The extractor connects by a 2 metre flexible hose. The cabinet has two extraction connections, 63 mm and 90 mm, and together with rubber seals around the doors the extraction keeps the dust inside the cabinet.

The blast gun comes with four replaceable ceramic nozzles in 4, 5, 6 and 7 mm. The viewing window measures 540 x 250 mm and is protected by replaceable film, and the 12 V lighting is powered from 230 V. Rubber work gloves are fixed into the cabinet, and parts rest on a sturdy work grating.

The top opening. In a standard blast cabinet with only a front door, heavy parts must be lifted in sideways and angled through a limited opening. With the KDP220TOP the lid swings up on gas struts so wheels, engine parts and welded assemblies can be lowered straight onto the grating. Internal height varies between 370 and 550 mm depending on position in the cabinet, and the built-in dust extraction allows the cabinet to be used in the workshop without spreading dust.

What compressor does the Cormak KDP220TOP blast cabinet need?

A compressor delivering 400–700 L/min of effective air flow at up to 8 bar, depending on nozzle. The smallest 4 mm nozzle sits at the lower end of the range, and the 7 mm nozzle needs the upper end. A small hobby compressor is not enough for continuous blasting — pressure drops and the abrasive stops flowing evenly. The cabinet connects with a 1/4" quick coupler. Note that the cabinet is partly delivered in parts and must be assembled according to the manual before first use.

Which abrasives can be used in the Cormak KDP220TOP?

Aluminium oxide (corundum), quartz sand, glass beads and granulate. The hopper holds around 18 kg of abrasive. Glass beads give a smooth, matte finish and suit aluminium wheels and engine parts, while aluminium oxide removes rust and paint faster and leaves a keyed surface for painting. Always run the extractor while blasting, especially with quartz sand, as the dust must not be inhaled.
